Today's post is just a general and sort of random roundup of all things sewing-related that have been going on around here:
I'll start by making you all feel soooo (sew) much better about your own skills: against better judgement, I'm sharing another of my Remedial Sewing Projects. You may remember I do not possess Mad Skillz when it comes to this stuff, but I always seem to forget that and try anyway.
This time it was a last-minute invitation to a baby shower for someone I have not seen in years, and with whom I was ridiculously excited for the opportunity to reconnect. But yes...last minute. A present, I needed a present! I didn't have time to shop, but I do have lots of baby fabric on hand. A clever friend suggested that a few handmade bibs would be a simple solution,
so off I went on a search for the best (and simplest) pattern I could find. I landed on Amy Sinibaldi's lovely blog, Nana Company, and found the perfect little pattern.
These are about as basic as they can possibly be; I really did have to zip through them in order to get to the party on time! I should have maybe focused on creating less bibs but spending more time on each (you think?!) but I couldn't decide on just one or two patterns so I just kept cutting and sewing. So, you know, when the first ones start to fall apart or become misshapen, she'll have others to replace them with, right? Yeah, Mad Skillz. But thankfully the fabric is cute, right? So on my sliding-scale of sewing adventures, I'll still call this one a sort-of success. Yay!
I had no snaps on hand but found velcro (yay!). Next time I'd like to edge them with ric rac and fasten them with cute vintage buttons, wouldn't that be sweet?
In case you're wondering, the patterns I used for these are all from my Hedgehugs, Two by Two, and Noah's Journey collections for Henry Glass. You may still find some of these patterns in your local quilt shops or online, but if you don't, I'll have them all available soon in my Etsy shop.
I've been adding more of my fabrics to the shop recently
and there will be more in the weeks to come. Stay tuned!
Here's something sort of random but sewing-related: I recently accompanied a super-talented hat-making friend to an amazing place: a business that sells industrial sewing machines.
I was fascinated by these incredibly bad-ass pieces of machinery, each with a very specific job.
I mean just look at the wheels on this thing! Watch your fingers and toes.
And finally, here's some exciting sewing news! The Henry Glass Summer Lookbook is out, with my Let's Celebrate collection...coming soon to an independent quilt shop near you!
How fun is this? It's caused me to once again forget my lack of Mad Sewing Skillz and I can't wait to create some party decorating projects. I'll keep you posted when this fabric is available and will have some set aside for a giveaway here on the blog.
Thanks again for visiting, see you next time!
