Taking a peek around this blog, one might get the impression that heads are planted firmly in the sand over here at The Artstuff's. Although I can't deny being at least a little bit self-absorbed now and then (quite often more than I'd like) the empty yet peaceful grasshopper-chirping sound coming from this corner of The Interwebs on the subject of The Outside World (beyond my immediate studio and garden) has not been due to lack of concern, frustration, anger, even heartbreak over the tragedies and atrocitites going on in the world.
Partly because I'm still having difficulty wrapping my little brain around so many sad and terrible things; my heart feels heavy and sometimes my brain and stomach feel like they don't remember which parts of my body they should be sitting quietly in. And partly because I would like this to be a place where maybe you and I both could escape those feelings and think, just for a minute, about things like pretty flowers, or nice drawings, even nice drawings of pretty flowers.
And speaking of a little much-needed positive energy, I just discovered this neato little news site that focuses on good stuff, thanks to one of my favorite blog-lurks ... just this morning I subscribed so they'll send "one good thing a day" to my email box, seems like that might be, well, good.

Aw, Beth, sorry to hear you're having one of those times - they're hard to dig out of, aren't they.
Hope you cheer up soon!
Hugs,
Diane

gosh, Di, that's so sweet of you. Thank you so much for the hugs and good wishes.
I guess when I expressed what it feels like to think about Japan, the Ocean, the Middle East, so much war and unrest and everything else that's going on, I might have come off sounding a lot more depressed than I intended. Yes, it's all so sad and overwhelming, but I suppose I'm not more or less sad about it than the next guy, you know?
Mostly what I hoped to express was a bit of a disclaimer here, that although I haven't been talking about these things, it doesn't mean I don't care or don't think about it ... I would hope that this is a place people can come to escape a little bit; you and I are lucky in that we can "escape" in our art, creating happy little things that counteract the ugliness that can be out there. I just hope to share a little bit of that happy escape with others here.
Sorry if I sounded too devastated, really I’m ok!
And thank you again for your concern and as always, especially your hugs!
Take care, friend!

Oh yes Beth I can totally relate to what you shared, these days there are so many horrific things going on in the world. When one is a compassionate person (as you are) it is hard not to feel the sadness, in many ways it is a good thing that we do FEEL for then we can try and help in ways we can. The good news is your artwork and your blog are filled with HEART and JOY, we can not get enough of that in this world and at this time we need it more then ever. Keep on sharing,
perhaps your art and your words inspires someone to do something kind for another, when hearts are touched the good things happen. I love those flowers! Are they new?
